Logan Square Farmers Market
Volunteers play a critical role in the support and success of our farmers market! Volunteers on market day assist in the set up, customer service, take down, site maintenance, sustainable waste management, and other operations associated with running the market on market day. As a thank you, volunteers receive a market pin to highlight your service to the market. Most of our vendors offer a volunteer discount for their products, and the market hosts a volunteer thank you event. The market makes a fun way to support your local community, get to know your neighbors and Chicagoans who share a similar passion, and get involved in the local food system.
If you are interested but unable to attend the market on market day, there may be other ways to volunteer to support the market. Contact [email protected] with a letter of interest, and we will get back to you if we are able to offer additional volunteer opportunities.
About the Logan Square Farmers Market
Since 2005, the Logan Square Farmers Market has been an open-air food market and weekly community gathering. In 2009, it extended its operation to include an indoor market during the fall and winter months. The Market is operated by the Logan Square Chamber of Commerce, an association of nearly 150 local businesses whose mission is to advance the civic and commercial interests of Logan Square. The Chamber is a tax exempt 501(c)6 not-for-profit community organization.
The Market is a place where farmers and sustainable food producers from the region sell their goods and build relationships with consumers, where residents come to see their neighbors, be fed and entertained, and participate in the Logan Square community. The Market has three primary goals:
- To Build an Alternative Food System The Market provides an outlet for nutritious, conscientiously grown and produced local foods, and education about these foods, for all members of our community regardless of income level. This is accomplished by thorough assessment of the vendors and by facilitating SNAP benefit sales and credit or debit card sales.
- To Foster Entrepreneurship The Market functions as an incubator for small-scale, local entrepreneurs, especially those in the food sector. Applications from small scale farmers, producers and other food businesses will be given preference. The Chamber rents space throughout the season to various, Logan Square based, non-food businesses to help them increase their profile.
- To Build Community The Market serves the community by raising the profile of the neighborhood, reinforcing a positive image of Logan Square, and creating a site for civic engagement and entertainment.
