SignUpGenius Helps Power National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend

Hundreds of Girl Scout troops use online sign up tools to coordinate booths and boost sales.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Girl Scout troops across the country are turning to SignUpGenius to organize booths and boost sales for National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend (February 26-28). The leading online sign up service allows troops to coordinate booths at multiple locations and simplify communication among participants.

"We use SignUpGenius for managing who is working cookie booths," said Tracie Dugdell, a Raleigh leader to Brownie and Cadette troops. "We are doing more and more cookie booths since they are an easier and safer way to sell cookies — more sold in less time, plus several girls together having fun while selling. Last year the Brownie troop sold about one-third of their total cookies at booths. This year both troops are selling more via the booths than girls selling directly."

This weekend marks the 99th year of Girl Scouts cookie sales, and digital tools have helped scouts meet customers where they are — online and on mobile devices. The Girl Scouts' Digital Cookie 2.0 platform allows girls to collect payments on mobile devices and sell online.

"The ability to manage so many dates, times and locations easily from one online resource makes SignUpGenius an awesome tool to help Girl Scouts achieve their goal of selling cookies in safe areas that are approved by business owners and the Girl Scouts organization," said Senior Support Analyst Teresa Clark. "With one sign up, communication is streamlined between the leaders and parents, automatic reminders are sent and filling all the booth locations is a breeze. It's so fun to see how much more Girl Scouts can accomplish by using our site to organize events and volunteers."

Tools like SignUpGenius help scouts focus more on teaching girls the sales process and business skills than logistics. "Courage is a big part of cookie sales as the girls have to be brave to ask adults to buy cookies or donate to Operation Cookie Drop, which donates to the military troops deployed from North Carolina bases," Dugdell said. "They also have to be able to explain to adults how they plan to use the money and what their goals are."
