Roof Above and Covenant have been successfully holding Room in the Inn safely this season even as we continue to navigate through the COVID pandemic. All homeless neighbors staying with us are required to be vaccinated (verified through the Health Dept). Masking will be required for all guests and volunteers regardless of vaccination status at all times while inside, except while eating, showering or sleeping. Social distancing of at least 6 feet will be used in all sleeping areas to the maximum extent practical.
To support Room in the Inn at Covenant this season, evening and morning van drivers, as well as overnight hosts are needed.
Overnight hosts spend the night in The Landing lounge (a separate room from our neighbors). They spend the evening socializing, ensuring showers and other needs are taken care of and in the morning, setting out breakfast, distributing bag lunches and straightening up the sleeping areas.
Van drivers must be less than 65 years old, have a valid driver’s license and car insurance. Evening drivers arrive at Covenant at 5:15 pm. Taking the van, they drive to the Roof Above Day Center to load the homeless neighbors staying with us that evening and return them to Covenant. Morning drivers arrive at Covenant at 5:45 am. They drive our homeless neighbors to the Charlotte Transportation Center and return the van to church.
