Loaves & Fishes Volunteers
Dear Monday Meal Providers:
Peace Church volunteers deliver an evening meal every Monday for 10-15 people who are living at the Loaves and Fishes Dorothy Day house, which provides hospitality for those who have few other choices about where to sleep. Thank you for volunteering to provide a meal.
Volunteers have the choice of cooking the meal at home or at the Dorothy Day House. You also have the option of purchasing groceries for the house and letting the residents do the cooking. Meals that we serve include both meat and vegetarian options. When deciding what to cook, it is always a good idea to call ahead (Dorothy Day House 724-2054) to see what they have had for meals this month and ask how many people they are expecting. Leftovers are always welcomed.
Guests at the house are happy to have the volunteers join them in the meal, but it is not required. Please be ready to serve your meal between 6:00 and 6:30pm. If you drop off the food, make sure to either pick up your dishes later or give them permission to give the dishes away.
The Dorothy Day house address is 1712 Jefferson St, just below St. Paul’s Episcopal on East Superior Street. The phone number is 724-2054. Each volunteer is scheduled to provide a meal about once every three months. We are always looking for more people to be regular volunteers or subs, so please invite others to join in this ministry.
Please select 2-3 dates below to commit to your dates to provide dinner. If your availability changes at a later date, you can swap dates with someone else on this list or reach out to the church office. We will send this schedule out again at the end of the year, to fill in the 2019 winter/spring dates.
Thank you for your help and for sharing your gift with others of our community!
