2019 Veggie Oasis

Thank you for your support of Veggie Oasis! This is a volunteer-run program and we could not operate without you!

There are 2 parts to the Veggie Oasis volunteer shift:

1. Gleaning Volunteers: Meet at the market between 11:30am and 11:45am. Go to the DBA tent on the NE corner of the square. They will direct you to the wheelbarrows.  Glean produce from farmers, ask any vendor that has food items and deliver to the distribution site (12:15-12:30ish).

2. Distribution Volunteers: Meet at the distribution site at 12:15pm. Set up table, sign, and information. Help to arrange veggies when they arrive. Engage with people who come to select veggies. Hand out recipes for the produce. Clean up and break down table when the food is gone (usually by 2pm). Right now, our site is the WBRP office at 724 W Washington. 

When you register, you will receive a follow up email with additional instructions. Children are welcome to volunteer with their grown up.

What is Veggie Oasis?

Veggie Oasis is supported by a partnership between the McLean County Wellness Coalition, the West Bloomington Revitalization Project (WBRP), the Downtown Bloomington Association Farmer’s Market, and farmers.

Veggie Oasis volunteers glean produce at the end of the market and deliver it to distribution sites in the Westside food desert. The food is giving away for free to local residents along with recipes, nutrition education, food insecurity information, and promotional materials for the farmers’ market.  Since the Veggie Oasis started in 2014, over 10,000 pounds of food has been gleaned and distributed. The entire program runs on volunteers and your support.
