Durham’s Jewish community partners to safely provide and serve dinner for homeless and food insecure people on the fourth Sunday of each month at Urban Ministries’ Durham Community Kitchen.
Judea Reform, Beth El, Kol Haskalah, Jewish for Good, and other community members need your help! During the pandemic, this mitzvah is more important than ever, and we have adapted to do it safely. We need volunteers and donors to
- Sign up to make casserole(s) at home and bring to a meeting point at mid day the fourth Sunday of the month (July 25, August 22, September 26. See recipe HERE!
- Purchase and bag cookies at home to deliver to meeting point.
- Purchase other items (see sign up)
- Volunteer to prep meals at UMD 3 people are needed at 4:30pm to safely package the food in take-out containers in the UMD kitchen. The staff of UMD will distribute the meals to their clients. This mitzvah is open to healthy people who are not at risk (please sign up close to the date so you can confirm you are healthy at the time!)
DELIVERING DONATIONS: On the fourth Sundays of the month, bring your items to Judea for contact-free "trunk to trunk" delivery between 12:30 and 1pm. You will put your items into one of the two vehicles going to Urban Ministries. Vehicles wll depart JRC promptly at 1pm. You may also contact Judy for possible alternate options.
