The Lawrence Lewis, Jr. Park Primitive Camping Area is available for use by bicyclists using the Virginia Capital Trail and paddlers exploring the James River and Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail.
The Lawrence Lewis, Jr. Park Primitive Camping Area is a cooperative project of Charles City County, James River Association, and Virginia Capital Trail Foundation. The project was funded by a generous grant from REI.
General Information Registration:
Reservation and payment must be completed by 4:00 PM on the last business day before your scheduled stay. Call (804) 652-1601 or e-mail for questions. [email protected] Registration is required to use the primitive camping area. Reservations can not be made for back-to-back dates. Registration and payment can also be made Monday – Friday from 8 am – 4:30 pm during office hours. Campsite #1, #2, #3 and the group camping area are first come-first served. Reservations are contingent upon availability, submission of registration and payment is required prior to Parks and Recreation staff issuing a confirmation permit. Your confirmation permit should be carried with you on the date of your reservation. Payment: Payment can be made in person at the Parks and Recreation Department located at 8320 Ruthville Road, Providence Forge, VA 23140 Can be mailed to Parks and Recreation, PO Box 128, Charles City, VA 23030 or Reservation fees under $25 are non-refundable in the event of cancellation. Hours: Registered campers may use the primitive camping area between dusk and dawn for a maximum of one night. Campers must vacate the primitive camping area by 8:00 am. Access: The primitive camping area serves the Virginia Capital Trail and Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail. Vehicular access is prohibited. Capacity: The maximum capacity of each primitive campsite is four individuals. The maximum capacity of the group camping area is 20 individuals. Camping is prohibited outside of designated areas. Trash: Campers shall properly dispose of trash in receptacles. Fires: Fires are prohibited in Lawrence Lewis, Jr. Park. Campers may use existing grills in the park. Alcohol: Possession and consumption of alcohol is prohibited in Lawrence Lewis, Jr. Park. Pets: Pets are prohibited in Lawrence Lewis, Jr. Park. Respect Park Users and Wildlife: Campers shall respect park users and wildlife at all times. Disruptive behavior, excessive noise, and amplified music are prohibited. Primitive Campsite: #1, #2, and #3 $15.00 per night, maximum one night, maximum four campers Group Camping Area $100 per night, one night maximum, maximum 20 campers A group camping area is available for use by organized groups. This primitive campsite is located in a wooded area near the entrance to Lawrence Lewis, Jr. Park. Amenities include a restroom facility, bicycle rack, and bicycle repair station. On the upper right-hand corner of the browser, click on the "
Customize and control Google Chrome" (three vertical line, a.k.a. 'hamburger menu') and select " Settings". In the "
Settings" page, locate and click on the " Show advanced settings..." link (typically at the very bottom of the page). The advance settings are shown. Under the the "
Click on the "Done" button to save the settings and close the dialog window.
You may close the "Settings" tab and reload the SignUpGenius application.
Open a new tab and in the address bar, enter the following:
about:config and press Enter. If a warning message is displayed "This might void your warranty!", click "
I'll be careful, I promise!" button. This will take you to the browser configuration menu. In the Search input, type
Internet Explorer (IE):
Open a new tab and on the upper right-hand corner of the browser, click " Tools" icon (cog or a rotary icon) and select " Internet Options".
The Internet Options dialog window will be displayed.
Under the "
Internet Options" window select the " Security" tab. Within the "
Security" locate and click the " Custom level..." button. Another dialog window will be displayed. Within the "
Security Settings - Internet Zone" window, look for the " Scripting" section (should be towards the bottom). Under the "
Scripting" section, locate " Active Scripting" item then select " Enable". If a "
Warning!" window pops up, select "Yes". Click "OK" to save and close the dialog windows. You may then reload the SignUpGenius application.
In the Safari menu, click on the "
Safari" and select " Preferences". The "
Preferences" window is displayed. Locate and select " Security" tab. Under the "
Preferences" window, and reload the SignUpGenius application. If you are not using any of the above browsers:
