Name: Betsy Lytle
Job Title: Senior QA Testing Analyst
Staff Superlative: Most likely to find obscure bugs or other minutiae on our site. (Can you tell she has a background as a scientist?)
If I could do anything for a day, I would:
Take a very quick trip to London or the Czech Republic to visit friends I haven't seen in a long time. Although with the current COVID-19 crisis, I'd be happy just seeing any of my family and friends right here in Charlotte.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love being part of releasing new features that enable our free and paid users to create sign ups that best fit their needs. Recently, I was the tester for the integration with Zoom, which allows creators to add a virtual meeting link to their sign ups. Knowing that we are streamlining the administrative tasks of our creators to allow them to focus more on their mission is very satisfying.
How have you seen SUG organizers change the world?
It is always exciting to see the generosity of volunteers through the sign ups created by our organizers, whether it is providing help for hurricane victims, sewing masks for frontline workers, raising money for organizations like the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, or collecting supplies to take to nonprofits in other countries. Each creator often represents dozens, if not hundreds, of dedicated volunteers working together to change the world.
Of our six core values, which one stands out the most to you? How do you see people in the company embodying it?
I really appreciate the emphasis on advancing the missions of others. This value is not only demonstrated through the product we offer, but also within the company itself. Last year, two employees joined a team of 18 others, led by our founders, Dan and Angel Rutledge, on a trip to Liberia to serve African Christian Fellowship International. We also regularly take part in serving organizations here in our community. One of my favorite opportunities is working with the students at Brookstone Schools, a private Christian school providing education to under-resourced families in our hometown of Charlotte. Finally, it is also wonderful to see so many co-workers increasing the impact of their donations to their favorite charities by taking advantage of matching funds from SignUpGenius.
What's a funny story or favorite memory you have from working at SUG?
Celebrating Dan's birthday at the office was quite hilarious. Being a prankster himself, he took all of the practical jokes with good humor from an office filled with balloons, to finding the employees' faces on all the K-cups, to seeing us all dressed up in "Dan the Cop" costumes.
What was your favorite day while working at SUG?
There have been many memorable days during my past five years with the company, but one of my favorites was the 10-year anniversary celebration. It was a wonderful time of looking back over the history of the company with gratitude as well as excitement for the future. Of course, we had great food and some competitive games thrown in! It was also fun to gather all of the remote employees and have the opportunity to meet their families.
Betsy is an invaluable team member here at SUG — we are so grateful for her attention to detail, gentle and hardworking spirit, and the way she always puts customers first. Learn more about us and the rest of our team!
