For children and families living with pediatric cancer, the journey through diagnosis and treatment is a rocky road.
Kids & Art Foundation founder Purvi Shah knows that first-hand. She founded the nonprofit in 2008, several years after her 3-year-old son was diagnosed with leukemia. Shah found the times he was most at peace were when he was creating art in a hospital therapy room.
Today the Burlingame, California-based organization works to improve the well-being of children undergoing cancer treatments through drawing and painting by pairing them with professional artists. It serves two Bay area hospitals, using SignUpGenius to manage eight sessions a month that require a few dozen volunteers.
"SignUpGenius helps keep us organized, makes sure we have the volunteers we need to run the workshops and allows volunteers to sign up for things on their own, which is a time saver for us and significantly cuts down on organizational costs," Program Manager Rachel Handsman says. "The most useful feature has been the reminders that are sent out to our volunteers."
SignUpGenius is proud to support the Kids & Art Foundation as it works to comfort children with pediatric cancer. It's a genius labor of love!
