The PS 452 Bird Club will meet once a month after school to watch and learn about the birds that visit our neighborhood.
On the Bird Club days, Mr. O'Reilly will lead students on bird walks in the school yard and local parks to see what birds we can find. We will then return to the front of the school's main entrance for pickup at 4:00pm.
Please provide an after school snack for your child on these days.
Students should be dressed for the weather and should bring binoculars. If anyone does not have binoculars, I have a few extra that can be borrowed. On days where the weather will not allow us to go outside, we will spend our time inside learning and playing games about birds.
A checklist of the birds we see on these days will be kept on eBird.org. This is a scientific research based website designed to monitor bird populations and movements. It is also a great way to track the number of species you have seen. I recommend each student getting their own eBird login to track their "Life List" of bird species. Once you have shared your student's login name with me, I can share the checklist with them which will update their life list.
Since we will be leaving the school grounds, NYCDOE Field Trip Release Forms and volunteers will be required. I will send home release forms for those that signup below. Volunteers for each individual walk can sign up below as well.
