Tutors & Trainees
Thank you for wanting to be a tutor with Project READ! Project READ tutors provide free basic reading, basic math, and/or ESL tutoring to adults in our area traditionally in a public community setting (like the library) or in an Adult Ed Classroom at Parkland College or at the Urbana Adult Education Center. We also offer tutoring through online apps such as Skype, Zoom, and WhatsApp as well. We offer support and training for our tutors so that they are best equipped to work with the learners on their goals. In order to provide these tutoring services, we ask that volunteers commit to tutoring at least 2 hours every week.
If you have not already registered as a Project READ volunteer, click here for the application.
Our training is a combination of virtual face-to-face sessions, online articles and optional teacher observations. All of our tutors complete at least 14 hours-worth of training in some convenient combination of these options (with a minimum of 4 hours of in-person training).
Due to the current situation regarding the coronavirus our introductions are conducted via Zoom.
Look for an invitation to the Zoom meeting shortly after you sign up below.
