Nachusa Grasslands Volunteers
During controlled burn season in March and April, no regular volunteer workdays will take place, so that personnel, vehicles, and equipment are always available for prescribed fires.
Check back in April for sign-up opportunities. The information below is for future reference.
Signing up in advance is required.
Due to COVID-19 safety protocols and new Morton Building construction traffic, volunteer workdays will meet at the Nachusa Grasslands Visitor Center, 2075 Lowden Road, Franklin Grove, IL 61031.
See the attached "COVID-19 Workday Safety Protocols for Nachusa Grasslands Volunteers" document for a list of personal items to bring, including your own facemasks, work gloves, snacks, and water. This information will be also included in your signup confirmation and reminder.
Each participant should sign up separately.
During the months of November to February, children under age 18 may not participate in workdays due to the nature of the tasks involved. In addition, workdays are not open to students seeking extra credit or fulfilling class requirements.
Dress for the weather. Always wear long pants, socks, sturdy shoes, and work gloves.
Please arrive at the Visitor Center 15 minutes before the start of the workday, as the group will leave promptly for the worksite. The outhouses are open.
If you're not already on it, we will add you to our weekly workday email communication list, so you will learn about upcoming workday plans in advance. Please reply to your signup confirmation email if you want to opt out.
