WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative father involvement, educational initiative of the National Center for Fathering. The goals of WatchDOGS are to provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important; and to provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
WatchDOGS are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year at an official WATCH D.O.G.S. school. WatchDOG dads and volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students on homework, flashcards, or spelling.
Benninghoven is excited to host two WatchDOGS per day. Volunteers are able to serve as a WatchDOG up to once per month per student and have the option to choose morning (arrival through lunch) or afternoon (lunch through dismissal).
IMPORTANT: All WatchDOGS must be SMSD MVPs. To become an MVP, you must apply online and attend a brief training. Contact the school office or check the PTA website for upcoming trainings.
Please review the attached document (below) to help you prepare for your time as a WatchDOG.
If you need to cancel within 3 days of your scheduled date, please email me directly so I can ensure that the classroom teacher is notified. Your presence is valued and appreciated!
