Volunteer areas are defined as follows for the Food Market:
Greeter and Floater: This volunteer will be the friendly face welcoming people as they arrive and orienting them to the space. Assisting with cart return, sanitation procedures, and being available to support guests, new volunteers, and staff in various tasks.This is a great role for people that are outgoing, friendly, and culturally aware, with strong customer service skills. (16+)
Stocking and Inventory: This volunteer will be stocking items in the warehouse, date checking inventory, and refilling shelves in the Food Shelf. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, lift above their chest, and move inventory on carts. This is a great role for people that like to work behind the scenes, organizing and keeping the food shelf looking good and running smoothly. You also get a chance to interact with the public while stocking the shelves. (16+, younger if accompanied by an adult)
Warehouse and Receiving: This volunteer will assist in receiving the large shipments and food deliveries and sorting/packaging fresh produce and/or perishables. Roles include repetitive motion, lifting up to 50 pound boxes, and using the warehouse equipment. This is a great role for people that enjoy physical work, have good spatial reasoning, and are comfortable using the warehouse equipment. (16+)
Cleaning and Organizing: This volunteer will assist with the closing-up and cleaning procedures to get the space ready for the next day. Roles may include sanitizing surfaces, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, trash/recycling collection, and restocking/cleaning the restrooms. This is a great role for people who enjoy cleaning, have an eye for detail and like to keep things tidy.(16+ )
Produce Packing: This volunteer will assist with bagging specific fresh produce items for the food market. While standing or sitting, the role involves opening produce sized bags, putting in the quantity of items needed, tying the bag and stacking the produce in the warehouse for use in the free food market. This is a great opportunity for people who enjoy keeping busy and like to keep things organized (16+, younger if accompanied by an adult)
Food Rescue: This volunteer will collect the produce and other food items rescued from local producers and retailers from around the community, sort the produce, and stock it on the shelves. This is a great role for people that like to be out in the community and are invested in getting good food into the homes of our neighbors. (18+ , requires background check)
Mobile Food Access: This volunteer will support food access efforts in the community at distribution sites or through home deliveries. Roles include quality customer service, loading product into vehicles, traffic management, and possible data collection. This is a great role for people that are outgoing, friendly, able to work outside, and can lift 25-30 pounds on a repeated basis. (18+ , requires background check)
