Hold the phone, Joan. This late breaking news is just in. Today SignUpGenius announced new scratch-and-sniff sign up technology! Creating a church snack sign up? Now you can scratch your monitor and you’ll actually smell the cookies! Yum.  

Wait – today’s not April first? In that case, we’ve been so busy creating a real jaw-dropping enhancement we must have missed it.  

New FeatureIntroducing…easy contact importing. Now in addition to adding emails manually to our system, you can also import your group members from a variety of sources including Yahoo mail, MSN, Hotmail, Outlook, AOL, and Gmail! That’s right – getting your contacts into our system has never been so easy. Choose the service that stores your contacts, authorize the import, and POOF – your names and emails are pulled right into our system, and you can immediately invite all your contacts to your sign up. It’s that simple! Um, well, except that our legal department says we need to disclose that your computer will not actually make the “POOF” sound… although it would be cool if it did. 

In addition to importing from these major programs, we’ve also added a CSV file import to handle other contact databases. You can now export your contacts from almost any kind of database that will create a standard CSV file. Once you upload the file, we’ll pull in the names as well as the emails so that your users can immediately receive personalized invites to your sign up. It’s easier than applying suntan lotion to your dog! Eww. Anyway – take our word for it. It’s easy.  

We understand that getting all your users properly invited to a sign up is a huge part of increasing your response rate and filling up those sign up slots. With easy contact importing, sending individual email invites to everyone is now quick and simple. So what are you waiting for? Quit scratching your monitor for crying out loud and go import some contacts!

Hi Holly,
You'll need to change your browser security setting to allow pop ups from www.signupgenius.com. In most browsers you can find the security settings under 'Preferences.'

I am trying to import email addresses from gmail to sign up genius. It says my browser is blocxking the pop up for it how do I fix that

Hi Eva,

I'm sorry that you are having difficulty importing your emails from Outlook. We are having some issues with Outlook imports, and we are trying to troubleshoot those.

The best option for you would be to export the emails to a CSV file. Then you can upload from that. When you click "Import from Address Book" you will see the CSV icon to the far right of the options. Make sure the column headings on the spreadsheet match our form fields. You can edit your spreadsheet or our form.

Also, it is not necessary to send invites from our site. You can copy the URL from your web browser address bar and then paste this link to give out in emails or however you wish to distribute it. I'm trying to import from Outlook, but it won't load. Is it possible that the organization is too large and that is what is crashing/timing it out? Not sure what else to try, but I don't really want to type out 40 email addresses :( Thanks!

Nene,

When using 'Import from Address Book,' all of your contacts will be uploaded. There is not a way to select a specific Gmail group. I would suggest first removing any old email addresses in Gmail before uploading your contacts to our site. You can also further edit your Group after it is uploaded by going to the Groups area. Whenever I do the automatic upload of contacts from gmail, it adds old email addresses that are no longer in my contacts. My gmail states 248 all contacts, then sign up genius uploads 301. Maybe if I put all my contacts in a group, is there a way to select a group when uploading? Please advise.

We don't have a direct import option through Shutterfly but if Shutterfly offers the ability to export your contacts to a CSV file, you can upload that file using our import tool. If you need additional assistance with that, please contact our support team via the help tab. Thanks!

There is a 'sort' setting that makes the available slot the first column of the sign up. If you've got a sign up already built, our staff can help you with that when you write in. Thanks!

How do you create a sign up with the "available slot" column to be the first column in your array? I also need columns for times, location, and persons names.

Can you cut & paste email addresses into the space? It puts semi-colons... is that ok?

I can't seem to allow for line spaces when a GR code takes to via their mobile. It just looks like one garbled mess with the signup below. Any ideas?

Love the new features, but it is really hard to find the actual information buried in the over-the-top witticisms that dominate Signup Genius' communications & faqs.

Is there a way to copy an already established signup and share with someone else. Or duplicate it? For example, I have set something up for AM kindergarten and need one for PM as well. Can I do that without redoing the entire signup?
