If you’re anything like me, you don’t get excited about New Year’s resolutions. For me, resolutions feel like one more thing I have to add to my list of things to do, and my list is full enough. Thanks, but no thanks!
One thing I deeply appreciate about this time of year, though, is the opportunity to break free from the usual chaos. Sometimes that means some peace and quiet, and other times it means a different kind of chaos — whether it is gatherings with family or friends, a road trip or your kids' repetitive, “I am bored” complaints.
Either way, the break from the usual is what I love. It jolts me out of my mindless maneuvering through life and helps me consider something fresh for the New Year. It nudges me to look up and see what is around me rather than only what is right in front of me. It revives my perspective, reminding me to savor what is important and take some time to do some things I enjoy.
I can fall into the trap of neglecting these things as the rigors of everyday life set in, so I treasure the opportunity to reset and press on with renewed perspective.
If you have a resolution this year, I wish you all the best. I am going to linger a little longer and enjoy the view.
That’s a breath of fresh air! How do you recharge for a new year or season in your life?
