Room at the Inn
Room at the Inn provides safe shelter, meals, and case management services around the clock during the COVID-19 phases 1 and 2. Volunteers and staff are providing an essential service. Without the shelter, our guests would literally have no place to go.
The shelter cannot operate without at least 2 people present at all times. Because of budget considerations, we need volunteers most of the day! We need your help to provide a place for our guests to stay "home" and stay safe. If they had another place to stay, they would be there!!
If you have signed up but are sick, STAY HOME & call Nohe (541-231-2020) or Sara (541-231-6772)!
> Volunteers, please review these limitations:
> If you are OVER 60 and/or have chronic health issues, please follow the public health guidelines and stay home.
> You must be practicing state guidelines for social distancing and mask wearing.
> All genders are welcome, but men cannot volunteer after 6 p.m. when guests are showering and preparing for bed.
> You must be over 18 to volunteer in the shelter room. Anyone 14 and older can help in the kitchen.
> You must wear a mask during your shift, unless you are eating or drinking. We can provide a mask if you don't have one.
> Review the attached documents regarding civil rights, confidentiality, and basic kitchen safety before you come for your first shift.
Volunteer shifts in the kitchen and overnight shifts involve minimal contact with others.
Vounteers in the main shelter room have more interactions but social distancing is enforced.
OVERNIGHT volunteers bring your own sleeping bag and pillows! We provide a clean bed in a private and quiet space. Basically, you can come in and sleep from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. If you can stay a bit longer to help with breakfast that is helpful but not required. Wifi and an outlet are provided.
Kitchen volunteers: Assist with meal prep and serving, clean and wash dishes, prepare snacks and serve coffee to guests. PLEASE read the kitchen safety document before you come in. You will need to follow all these basic food safety guidelines when you are helping in the ktichen. Kitchen staff will be available to answer any questions you have.
Volunteers in the main shelter room: Greet guests and help with the basics like folding laundry, scheduling showers and laundry, sanitizing surfaces, and odds and nends. When it is quiet you can read or use your phone, or knit or whatever!
LOCATION: 1166 NW Jackson -- the large gym-like Community Center. We cannot stay open without a volunteer and staff member present at all times.
If you have to cancel because of an emergency, please text or call Nohe 541-231-2020 or Sara 541-231-6772
All volunteers (except kitchen volunteers) will check in at the shelter entrance. We will take a quick temperature, and ask some screening questions for those in the shelter room. If you are in the kitchen, you will do a quick self evaluation for symptoms, wash your hands, and get to work, for us (if you are there during a meal), or you can set up your computer, or whatever, on a counter near the back of the kitchen.
