2020 Walk MS: Cheshire


The National MS Society is closely monitoring the latest developments of the coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic and we are taking proactive steps to protect people affected by MS, our event participants and the broader MS community. Based on recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we will not host Walk MS events through June in person. Instead, we will continue to fuel life-changing breakthroughs for people affected by MS through an exciting virtual Walk MS experience.

You can still make a difference through #virtualwalkMS:

  • Celebrate Your Walk, Your Way – Whether it’s on a home treadmill or a walk around the block with your dog, on your site’s Walk MS date (or whenever it’s convenient for you) put on your orange or your favorite National MS Society volunteer t-shirt and show us how you’re celebrating by using #virtualwalkMS on social media to share photos and more.


  • While we cannot gather in person, if you would still like to contribute to Walk MS, volunteers have the ability to support through fundraising or donating. We will continue to fundraise for Walk MS virtually to meet our goals and support people living with multiple sclerosis.
  • Call, text or FaceTime a person affected by MS in your life.  Create a safe opportunity for connection. After all, we’re all in this together!

Set Up (10)

Activities include: Unloading and distributing supplies, setting up tents, tables, and chairs, hanging banners and signage, decorating tents and tables (heavy lifting required approx. 50lbs).

6:15am - 12:30pm  

Volunteer Check-In (2)

Activities Include: Checking in volunteers, ensuring paperwork is turned in and volunteers receive a t-shirt and instructions for their volunteer shift.

Activities include: Helping staff with various tasks throughout the event, setting up/tearing down event site, communicating with other volunteers, filling in for others on an "as needs" basis (lifting may be required)

7:00am - 11:00am  

VIP Concierge (4)

Welcome our VIP Walkers to the event. Includes checking them in, handing out fundraising club items, overseeing VIP refreshment area and more!

7:30am - 10:30am  

Walk- Up Registration (16)

Activities include: Greeting and checking-in walk participants, collecting pledge envelopes and donations, providing general event information. (additional training may be required) (Background check required for volunteers handling donations).

Activities include: Setting up/breaking down area with appropriate supplies, managing the mission area during the event which may include disseminate Society print materials, speaking to constituents about MS Society.

Food Service Area (8)

Activities include: Setting up and orgainzing food service area, handing out food to participants, cleaning up area and putting away supplies. *Basic and safe food preparation and handling is required and volunteers will be provided hand washing station.

9:30am - 12:30pm  

Rest Stops (3 Stops) (9)

Activities Include: Setting up/taking down the site, running hydration/fruit stations, serving food and beverages to participants, providing excellent customer service. (Occasional lifting may be required).


Cheering (8)

Activities include:  Standing at the finish line to cheer on participants, using noise makers, handing out medals/mementos, often these volunteers are asked to bring encouraging signs or cheering swag from home to the event.

10:30am - 1:30pm  

Tear Down (10)

Activities include: Cleaning up the event site, taking down decorations, signage and banners, breaking down tents, tables, and chairs, organizing and loading supplies (heavy lifting required approx. 50lbs).
