Kalamazoo in Bloom
Our planting schedule in Portage and Kalamazoo has been adjusted in response to the pandemic and with guidelines to stay at least 6 feet apart from others. The new schedule has various beds being planted each day with a limited number of volunteers assigned to each bed. Portage: May 16-May 20. Kalamazoo: May 26-May 28 (an extra day will be added on to each day if we don't finish the planting as scheduled)
Because of these changes, we ask that experienced KIB planting day volunteers sign up to help. Unfortunately, we will not be able to give instruction on how to plant. In some cases, the bed designs have been simplified so less explanation is needed. Please WEAR A MASK AND BRING YOUR OWN GARDENING GLOVES, TOOLS AND OTHER ESSENTIALS, AS WELL AS WATER AND SNACKS. If you don't have a mask, we will provide you with one. Feel free to wear your KIB shirt from past seasons. We encourage you to plant a bed with people from your own household (extra hands are helpful; please no young children who need special supervision).
FOR MASTER GARDENERS: MSU Extension has advised that no Master Gardeners volunteer for any projects until further notice. If you volunteer, we ask that your role be as a "Kalamazoo in Bloom volunteer" instead of as an "MSU Extension Master Gardener". KIB does not want to jeopardize approval of our project with MSU Extension or compromise Master Gardeners' status with MSU Extension. In other words, please do not report any hours worked with Kalamazoo in Bloom.
