Thank you for registering to be part of Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend’s Food Truck Challenge, July 22-24, at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa!
Food Truck Challenge:
We are expecting roughly 50,000 race fans over the course of the weekend, and they will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite food truck. The top three food truck vendors determined by popular vote will win a cash prize.
- 1st Place: $25,000
- 2nd Place: $15,000
- 3rd Place: $10,000
We will cap the number of food truck vendors at 50 total. Voting will be digital, and final voting logistics will be shared with you prior to race weekend.
NOTE: All food trucks (even those from outside of Iowa) MUST be licensed in the state of Iowa AND obtain a permit from the City of Newton to participate.

*There is no cost for the City of Newton permit, but it does require scheduling a physical inspection of your food truck(s) by the Newton Fire Department, OR submitting documentation from another community’s recent inspection of the food truck(s). FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Am I allowed to bring a camper?
Camping is a tradition at Iowa Speedway and the Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend will offer a complete camping experience for fans. RV and travel trailer camping spots are still available in the General Lot. Click Here to Purchase a Spot.
Do food trucks have to stay overnight or can they leave and come back the next morning?
Once food truck operators load in on Thursday, they cannot leave until Sunday after gates close.
- Load-in: Thursday, July 21, with more details on a specific schedule to come
- Load-out: As soon as gates close (scheduled for about 8 p.m., Sunday, July 24, but is subject to change)
Will there be electric hook-ups?
Electric hook-ups will be provided. We ask that no food truck venders run off their own generators.
Am I able to bring a smoker?
Yes, BBQ smokers are permitted.
Will there be freezer/refrigerated space available?
No freezer space will be available at the event, however there will be cold storage available for food truck vendors to store extra product. There will be designated individuals assigned to food truck village to assist you with transporting your products.
Will food trucks be able to sell beverages?
If a food truck would like to sell water or soda during race weekend, they will need to become a subcontractor of the venue catering company, Levy. Levy will provide product, and food trucks will keep a portion of the sales as an additional POS on site. For more information, please contact Paul Bonney, Regional Manager, at [email protected].
Are food trucks allowed to sell alcohol?
Food Trucks are not allowed to sell alcohol of any kind during Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend.
Will food trucks have to provide a menu with pricing for approval prior to race weekend?
All food trucks must submit final menus with pricing to Hy-Vee no later than June 27, 2022, for review to ensure trucks are staying within a comparable price range for menu items.
Will food trucks be able to keep a support vehicle nearby?
All support vehicles will need to park in the vendor parking lot, located on the northeast side of the property. Golf cart and tram shuttles will be available all day to help with transportation from this lot to the midway.
Will there be a water source to dump water?
Yes, there will be pump out services each evening. This will be coordinated by Onsite Reliable Services and will cost $75/pump out. Water fills for non-potable tanks up to 40 gallons will cost $40/fill. Contact information will be shared prior to race weekend.
Will there be pump out services for grease traps?
Yes, there will be a service available to pump out grease traps, but have not finalized this provider or the cost. We will share details one they are finalized.
Will food trucks be strategically mapped out?
Yes, there will be a map of all food truck vendors for attendees upon arrival. As for strategic placement, we will do our best to ensure competitive vendors are not placed next to one another (i.e. burger trucks will not be next to other burger trucks).
Will there be other concessions at the race?
Aside from the other food truck operators, INDYCAR will have four concession stands open throughout race weekend in the main concourse.
Are we allowed to accept cash as payment during the Food Truck Challenge?
Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend will be a cashless event, so we ask that you be prepared to take credit and debit cards, or a form of digital payment (i.e. Venmo, PayPal, etc.). Additionally, there will be (2) reverse ATM machines onsite where attendees can insert cash and receive a card similar to a VISA gift card with their desired amount of money loaded onto it. Those cards can be processed just like a regular credit card.
What times will food trucks need to be in operation?
- Friday, July 22: 2-9 p.m. (subject to change)
- Saturday, July 23: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (subject to change)
- Sunday, July 24: 10:30 a.m.- 7 p.m. (subject to change)
Do food truck vendors get to keep all profits from the event?
Yes, food truck vendors will keep all profits from their sales during Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend.
