About Elite Sports Academy and Stand Together Week:
Our mission is to provide an opportunity for every child to become an elite athlete on the field and in the classroom. We seek to provide an experience that many underprivileged children would not otherwise have access to, allowing them to develop their academic and athletic abilities, as well as their skills in leadership, teamwork, self-confidence, and self-discipline. Our unique program model is based on getting children active and using physical health as a driving factor for success: all through the power of sport.
The children (“athletes”) attending The Academy undergo elite training in basketball, soccer, football, and volleyball. In addition to the daily athletic training, the athletes also have multiple sessions each day focused on education. The combination of athletic and academic training sessions provide the athletes with guidance in areas such as self-confidence, teamwork, leadership, nutrition and healthy living habits, and much more that will help them grow on and off of the court.
Stand Together Week is the Portland Timbers, Thorns FC, and T2 citywide volunteer initiative that brings the community together to support local nonprofit organizations. The week engages hundreds of supporters, including players, coaches, ambassadors and front office staff who work with various non-profits in the community. Since 2012, Stand Together Week has mobilized 5,395 volunteers to provide the Portland metro area with 18,290 hours of service at more than 226 events benefitting youth and the environment.
