Barnard Elementary is looking for student ambassadors and their parents to represent Barnard at the downtown San Diego Chinese New Year festival. This is our school's biggest recruiting opportunity and we need the best Barnard representatives that we can find (that's you!). Sign up for a time below to reserve your spot to help with this fun service opportunity.
Who: Currently Enrolled Barnard Students or Barnard Graduates and their parents (parents must remain with children)
What: Staff the Barnard Booth to let other San Diego families know about our school
When: February 16 or 17
Where: 3rd Avenue and J Street
Why: Because it's fun! In addition, All student ambassadors will be recognized at morning assembly, and those in grades 2 - 4 will be eligible to give school tours with Ms. Hernandez in fall 2019. Barnard grads from middle school can count this activity toward service hours.
Students and parents should wear Chinese outfits and/or Barnard t-shirts if they have them. They should be prepared to demonstrate some of their mandarin skills (it can be simple) as well as pass out flyers and fortune cookies. The festival is free, but you may need to pay a small fee for parking.
After your turn at the booth, take some time to check out the performance stage, incredible food vendors, kids' craft tent, the Chinese History Museum, and all the other activities.
If your student is performing at this festival, please do not overlap the performance time and/or call time with your sign-up below. Students and parents are expected to be present at the booth for the entire slot time (except for bathroom breaks, etc.). Event details, such as booth location, will be sent the week prior.
