Finally spring is here, bringing renewal and hope. Expectation is blooming in our shelter program as we help nearly half of our residents prepare to exit in April and May and move forward into their new homes. On their heels are new residents entering the shelter seeking a temporary place to stay and assistance with finding stable income and housing. Central to all of the comings and goings is the comfort of delicious dinner meals that provide a sense of wellbeing and of “home,” food that helps ease emotions such as sadness, anxiety, or depression, which we know increases during stressful times. Thank you for your compassion in giving of your time and resources to provide comforting food that helps bring strength, optimism, and moments of happiness to those in our care!
FYI - WE ARE SIGNING OFF ON SERVICE HOURS FOR STUDENTS WHO PREPARE AND DELIVER MEALS IF THEY PROVIDE THEIR OWN TIMESHEET.
PLEASE SEE SUGGESTED MENU ITEMS BELOW AS WE STILL HAVE AN OVERABUNDANCE OF LASAGNA AND LIMITED STORAGE SPACE. THANKS FOR UNDERSTANDING!
Grassroots provides three meals daily for up to 50 shelter residents in our on-site commercial kitchen. We rely heavily on community support to feed our residents.
You can help by preparing a fully cooked meal or entrée to serve about 50 people. Meals can be prepared with your own ingredients or purchased. For example, rotisserie chickens are helpful to have on hand (we would need 12 to make a meal).
If frozen, you may deliver your meal in advance of your chosen date.
If you would like to support a local restaurant through carryout or delivery to Grassroots here is a link to a list of local restaurants, the cost can range from $150-$500:
We will also accept donations to purchase meals. A dinner meal that we prepare cost approximately $150. Donations can be made online at: http://grassroots.hocomojo.org/donate/
Or you can mail a check payable to 'GRASSROOTS'.
