Lubber Run Farmers Market
Please select the time slot you'd like to volunteer at the market, Saturdays May 26 through November 17, 2018 at the Barrett Elementary School parking lot (4401 N Henderson Rd). Thanks for your support of the Lubber Run Farmers Market. See you Saturday!
Here is a brief description of the tasks:
Set-up (7:30 to 9:00 a.m., an hour and a half shift) requires unlocking the port-a-john and restocking it if needed, pulling the market gear out of the trailer, setting up the market tent in the designated spot in the market, setting up the music tent as well, putting tent leg weights on both tents, and stocking the LRFM tent with tables and chairs and the needed supplies. The market A-frame signs need to be displayed at both ends of the market, and the two extra signs should be placed on the grassy median on N. George Mason Dr. (at both Park and Henderson Sts.) to alert drivers that the market is at the school. Prior to the market's opening at 8 .m., three orange traffic cones should be positioned at each end of the market to prevent customer vehicles from entering the market area during market hours. Volunteers should also assist vendors with their set up if some special support is needed. Occasionally a volunteer may be asked to cover for a vendor if the vendor needs to grab a coffee or take a restroom break. The market manager or volunteer should, prior to the market's opening, police the adjacent school playgrounds and collect any trash and any dangerous items (e.g., broken glass) that is found.
Market Booth (9:00 to 11:00 a.m. , a two hour shift) is a period when market manager and any volunteer should ensure that market activities are flowing well. A volunteer should man the LRFM booth and handle other activities as the market manager requests, answer any customer questions; and advise any person in the market with a dog that dogs (other than registered service dogs) are not permitted in the farmers market due to federal and Arlington health rules as well as insurance risk. The volunteer should help to keep the market tidy.
Closing (11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., an hour and a half shift) Pack up the market tent supplies; break down the LRFM tent and music tent for transport; retrieve the orange traffic control cones at the market's ends; retrieve all market signage. Inspect and lock the port-a-john. Pack all gear into the market trailer. Customer trash gathered during the market period may be bagged and disposed of in the school's outdoor trash bin. Rubbish and other items belonging to the market vendors must be taken away by the vendors and are not approved to be disposed of in the school's trash bin. If requested, assist any vendor needing help with packing up their gear. The manager should walk the market site prior to departing and ensure that all is in order.
Thanks for signing up!
