This class will help you complete a Shaded 9-patch quilt, but will also help you learn good techniques and habits to continue into your next project. The class will cover information about making good fabric choices, basic quilting tools, rotary cutting, sewing a ¼” seam, pressing and nesting seams, squaring up blocks, batting, basic machine quilting with an even feed foot, binding, and documentation while making the Shaded Nine-patch quilt. Students do not need to purchase supplies until after the first class. Additional times may be scheduled with the instructor as needed by the students.
Student purchases: fabric (yardage amounts given out in first class), batting (recommend 100% cotton or 80/20), and thread (if not using a neutral color)
Instructor will provide a pattern with yardage information, handouts for each step of the process, and guidance with all the steps.
CLC provides cutting mats, rotary cutters, rulers, sewing machines, irons and ironing boards, neutral color thread, pins, scissors, basting spray, and needles.
LEVEL 1: BEGINNER
You have used a sewing machine before but need a refresher on threading the machine.
Perhaps the last time you sewed was in your junior high home economics class. You may have
some finished projects but you’re not sure about adjusting tension and you may need more
practice keeping an even seam allowance. Has a sewing machine at home or plans to use CLC
Sewing Workshop times to work on projects beyond class sessions.
