UU Church of Elgin
UUCE has volunteered to prepare and serve lunch to the PADS day program/shelter guests every Monday (except holidays when the shelter's day program is closed). There are severl ways to get involved!
- Provide part or all of the meal:
- main dish + starch (starch can be a side dish or may be included in the main dish)
- Sign Up to help serve the meal
Families are encouraged to participate. Children 10 and older are welcome to help serve if they are accompanied by an adult.
If you want to help with meal prep but are unable to bring the food to the shelter on Monday morning, go ahead and sign up and contact a member of the Social Justice Team who will coordinate picking up the food (most folks bring it to church on Sunday, but we are flexible).
When you decide what you're going to make, please add a comment on the signup genius so we know what to expect. Beverages, condiments, salad dressings, desserts, dishes and utensils are provided at the shelter. There is a warming oven available, but no other cooking apparatus. The guests do all the cleanup.
Please prepare enough food for approximately 20 guests.
You can save your receipts and submit a request for reimbursement at church.
Some ideas for lunches:
- Hot casseroles of just about any kind
- Baked potato bar
- Sloppy Joes
- Taco bar
- Shredded BBQ chicken or pork sliders
The PADS shelter is located at 1730 Berkley St., Elgin (near Elgin Community College). Park in the lot to the east of the building and enter through the door facing the street (you will be buzzed in).
Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. Thank you!
