Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula
We started in March 2020 as a small operation to use our kitchens to support our students and their families for what we thought would be a 3 week shelter in place. By the end of 2020, we had served over 300,000 meals with the help of over 1200 individual volunteers. While it is sad to see the impact of COVID-19 on our more financially vulnerable communities, we are proud to be able to step up and serve this basic need, and to have a larger community that can rise to this occasion. Thank you for being a part of that community.
Every weekday, we serve a well-balanced, chef cooked hot meal and allow families to pick up however many their household needs. On Wednesdays/Thursdays in RWC and Fridays in EPA, we distribute Second Harvest Food Bank grocery and produce boxes.
There are three ways you can help us execute this massive operation:
1. Dinner Packagers/Runner- required to be there early, this role is not community facing, but rather will keep you in the kitchen, ensuring that each meal is packaged equitably. Strict guidelines around health and safety are enforced more often in the kitchen.
2. Meal Prep - this role if for those who have some spare time to offer during the day to support our chefs with the prep it takes to cook meals for 2,000 people.
3. Dinner Distribution - As the most community facing role, this role requires both passion and joy to ensure a positive experience for our families, as well as discipline to move the pickup through efficiently and safely execute contactless delivery.
**Please bring your ID each time you volunteer for the Fed Check and be ready to answer the required Health Check questions upon arrival.
*Please make sure you sign up all who will be volunteering with you separately so that each individual person is accounted for.
ALL volunteers will need to fill out a waiver. Please click the following hyperlinks to complete: ADULTS and STUDENTS UNDER 18 (parents need to fill out this form for their student).
**Please make sure you sign up for only one role per day (apart from meal prep during the day), even if you are willing to do more than one job. Your role is subject to change per site leadership discretion day of.
On behalf of BGCP leadership and our incredible cooking crew, thank you all SO MUCH. As you will soon see, it cannot happen with you so I hope you feel how grateful we are to serve alongside you in a historic period of need.
Much love and gratitude,
Director, Volunteerism & Community Engagement
