Join our Ag in the Classroom team on Wednesdays at Otsiningo Park from 10am-11am. We'll learn about a variety of topics, interact with some animals, do some hands-on learning and even some taste tests! There is a 10 person limit on these programs so sign up early to reserve your spot! Parents, please include yourself in the registration number. Please only take the spots you will need. Apples, Sept 23rd: Learn all about apples and how they are grown by NY farmers. Participants will learn about the parts of an apple, different types of apples, and take part in a taste test of different apple products from NY.
Chickens, Sept 30th: Learn about the anatomy of chickens and how they are cared for by farmers. Participants will learn about different breeds of chickens, what makes them unique, and more about the eggs that we get from chickens. Chickens from a local farm will be visiting during the lesson.
Grapes, Oct 7th: Learn all about grapes that grow in NY. They will learn about the different parts, see how grapes are turned into juice, and learn how farmers grow NY state grapes every year. Participants will take part in a taste test of different grape products.
Cranberries, Oct 14th: Learn all about cranberries. They will get hand on experience dissecting a cranberry, learn about the interesting ways farmer's harvest them through a science experiment, and learn how they grow. Participants will take part in a taste test of different cranberry products.
Lamb, Oct 21st: Learn about the anatomy of lambs and how they are cared for by farmers. Each participant will learn how farmers raise lambs to get wool, and will get hand on experience with real wool by making a craft using wool from local farms. A lamb from a local farm will be visiting during the lesson.
Pumpkins, Oct 28th: Learn all about a fall favorite- pumpkins!Just in time for Halloween, participants will learn about how pumpkins grow, different parts of a pumpkins, and different types of pumpkins. Each participant will dissect their own pumpkin that they will be able to take home to decorate.
