2021-22 Marching Band and Guard *NEW*
The Uniform Crew helps band members with their uniforms. We make sure that our marching band members look their best on the field. This is a great opportunity for us to get to know our wonderful band members, how they interact with each other, and how they improve on their performance during events. Most teenagers don’t want their parents around too much. But our band members really need your assistance with their uniforms and are very appreciative of your help. No experience is necessary. You will also get to know other parents and find out many tips about high school life. Come and join us!
We have several volunteer opportunities with varying time commitments...
4:30 - 6:30 pm: Meet in the band room. At most home games, the band will perform during the half-time show. Supervise students as they pull out uniform carts from the uniform storage room and as they put on their uniforms. Help them with any missing items, cleaning needs, broken or unsewn items. Accompany the students and check them visually as they line up in the band parking lot and get ready to march onto Peck Avenue. If you wear your marching band volunteer t-shirt, you can get into the football games for free! This volunteer t-shirt really helps at the events as kids know that we’re there to help them with uniforms.
9:30 - 10:30 pm: After the game, meet the students in the band room. Supervise them as they dress out, put away their uniforms and move the uniform carts back into the uniform storage room.
8:00 - 11:00 am (approx.): We meet at the band room, supervise students put on their uniforms. One volunteer stays behind in the band room in case there are late students, as the rest of the volunteers carpool to the parade location. We bring the plumes with us and plume their hats (attach the feather ornament) before and collect them after the parade. Then we head back to the band room and stay there until all students are changed out and uniform carts are put back in uniform room.
2:00 - 9:00 pm (tentative): We meet at the Mira Costa band parking lot and carpool to the tournament location. Time varies depending on when our band steps off at the tournament. Normally, our call time is around 2:00 pm and we stay at the tournament for 7 hours (including travel time) until approximately 9:00 pm or whenever our band has finished performing and changes out of their uniforms. We pick the location where uniform carts are to be unloaded from trucks. We arrange and have the carts ready for students. We supervise them as they put on their uniforms and then follow them at the tournament site as they warm up in case they have any uniform issues. After the show, we head back to the changing area. After students change out of their uniforms, we supervise the carts being loaded onto trucks. If you can stay longer, we can go back and watch other bands perform and see the award ceremony (optional)!
Please consider helping us! Thank you for volunteering your time!
