Carlyle Lake Triathlon

Please see below for a description of volunteer positions needed. 

Race Date: Sunday September 19, 2021 - SPECIFIC TIMES TO BE DETERMINED UPON RACE START TIME. 

Location: Carlyle Lake 801 Lake Road, Carlyle, IL 62231

Accommodations:

If you are interested in staying close to the race site, there are several options. 

  • Dam West Rec. Area & Campground
  • Mariner's Village Resort

Volunteer Positions:

Packet Pick-up: Assist racers with picking up race packets, distributing numbers and/or race swag and answering any questions.

Set-up Crew: Assist with set-up of tables and supplies for packet pick-up. Requires heavy lifting.

Clean-up Crew: Assist with clean-up after packet pick-up. Taking down tables and packing up supplies. Requires heavy lifting.

Shore Support: Assist swimmers as they exit water. May require getting partially wet and standing in sand/water.

Swim Course Safety Kayaks: Please bring your own kayak, paddle & PFD. We have some availability if you don't have one. Contact Tonya McMillen

Transition Crew: Assist in transition area at entrance & exits. Check racers as they enter transition to ensure they have their number marks.

Body marking at transition: Mark athletes with their race numbers prior to entering transition.

Transition - Bike Mount/Dismount: Must be able to communicate clear and loud instructions to athletes as they leave T1 and return for T2. Announce to all athletes clearly where they are able to mount and dismount their bikes.

Bike Course Marshal: Positioned along the course (Specified Locations in sign-up slots or TBD) and direct participants, warn of any hazards along course, and provide any assistance should any minor incidents occur. You may be placed along course at turns or intersections. In addition if water is offered on the course, you will be required to pass off bottles of water or nutrition to racers as they ride through, offer addition support and nutrition to those athletes that stop, clean-up aid station area, tear-down and pack-up all remaining supplies and equipment (possibly required). Please note locations specified could change at last minute depending possible unknowns of road conditions. 

Bike Course Marshal Turnaround: Positioned at specific turn around points on bike course. Depending on last athlete on course will depend on lenght of time for volunteer position. Estimates within sign-up given. 

Run Course Aid Station: This position is great for kids paired with an Adult. Ensure water is supplied for athletes at water stations. Volunteers will need to fill cups that will be placed on table for participants to grab. Ensure cups are picked up off ground during race. 

Finish Line – Medals/Timing Chip Collection: Great for kids paired with an Adult. After a participant crosses the finish line you will assist with giving each racer a medal along with removing their timing chip and handing out water.

Food/Water/Beer Service (must be 21 years old): Assist participants with handing out food and beverages.

Race Clean-up Crew: Assist with clean-up after race. Taking down tables, transition area, tents, equipment, etc. Requires heavy lifting.

Supply Delivery to Water Stations: Ensure Water Stations are fulfilled during race - may require vehicle.

Volunteer Floater: Be willing to go to an area where the Volunteer Coordinator indicates additional volunteer support is needed. Be flexible in filling in areas where is best needed for athlete/race support.

Volunteer Tent: Help the Volunteer Coordinator assist volunteers & check-in volunteers.

Clean up: Help to clean up toward end of race and after close of the race.

Monitor the transition area to keep athletes and equipment safe, direct spectators when and where they may pass through, help with tear down of transition area as portions of the race complete.
