ArtsCentric Summer Institute offers a three-week intensive workshop during which students explore the techniques of musical theatre performance from the perspective of an actor, singer, and dancer. ASI employs both group and individual instruction to train the next generation of triple-threats. Our summer activities include dance classes, choreography and musical staging rehearsals, acting and song analysis classes, private song coaching, and a series of master classes on subjects related to the field. The institute culminates with a fullscale musical presentation complete with lights, set, sound, a band, and costumes.
Prospective students should select two songs, contrasting in style, that best demonstrate vocal range, musicality, interpretive skills, and acting ability. Bring sheet music in a binder or single sheets taped together that contain full piano accompaniment, not just chord symbols. An accompanist will be provided. Students may not perform a cappella or to an audio recording.
Everyone will be asked to dance. Students will be taught a dance combination which will then be performed in small groups. Evaluation will be based on skill, potential, and the ability to learn the routine.
