MONTHLY PET FOOD ASSISTANCE
The Pet Pantry Monthly Assistance Program is for temporary assistance (up to 6 months), and is intended to supplement the pet food you serve to your pets. If approved, you will pick up food from the shelter once a month. This program does not provide an entire month's worth of food. Animals must be spayed/neutered in order to qualify for free food. Unfixed animals can only pick up food once. If you wish to spay/neuter your pet(s) but cannot afford to, we have vouchers available upon request.
Applying for the Pet Pantry Assistance Program is a simple process, but we regret that not all situations will meet our criteria. To ensure that we are helping those who truly need it, we have set guidelines for eligibility for assistance.
Income verification is necessary to be approved as a Pet Pantry Assistance Program client. To verify income and receive approval for free pet food, please email a copy of at least one of the following items to [email protected] immediately after completing the online application with "PPMAP" in the subject headline.. Applications without a supporting document will not be processed.

- Severance Statement
- Unemployment Statement
- Pension Distribution Statement
- CHIP - Children's Health Insurance Program

Providing fraudulent, inaccurate, or misleading information may be punishable by law. Application is subject to immediate rejection if not accompanied with proof of income or proof of enrollment in any of the city/state assistance programs listed above.
Participation in this program releases the Houston Humane Society (HHS) from all liability. HHS is not responsible for providing an entire month’s worth of pet food. HHS reserves the right to refuse assistance to anyone.
Please allow 7-14 days for notification of assistance approval or denial.
