AFAC clients LOVE and are very thankful for fresh produce! Please sign-up to join us to help our neighbors in need. Invite friends & family too.
For the past 10 years, RAC has served the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) by being in charge of Sunday afternoon pick-ups at the Columbia Pike Farmers Market (corner of Walter Reed and Columbia Pike – by the Rite Aid), and bringing the produce back to AFAC to sort & bag (typically 12:45-3:30pm on Sundays).
Everyone will meet at AFAC (2708 S. Nelson St., Arlington VA 22206) at 12:45pm. Part of the group will head to the Columbia Pike Farmer's Market to load up and part of the group will stay at AFAC to get the produce bagging stations set-up. Volunteers will collect donations provided by vendors, sort veggie/fruit in crates, bag produce, and organize crates in the warehouse.
Volunteers should wear closed toe shoes, work clothes, and a hat. Hair must be covered by a hat or provided hairnet. Closed toe shoes are required in the warehouse. It's helpful to bring a refillable water bottle.
Kids are welcome but they must be accompanied by an adult. We find that the activity is best for kids ages 12+. Younger children are welcome but should be monitored closely for safety.
