Volunteer for COMMON READ - be a part of a UWM tradition!
Friday, August 30, 2019 * 1pm-5pm
The Common Read presents incoming freshmen with their first opportunity to participate in a college-level discussion. It allows them to connect with faculty and staff, as well as with student peers, and to have meaningful, engaging conversations.
As a volunteer you will facilitate two interactive discussions for groups of groups of 25-35 students. These sessions will center on the series "I'm An American" by WUWM's Teran Powell with particular attention to themes that resonate with issues facing college students, UWM, and the community.
Students will receive the series in the summer during New Student Orientation. You can view the series on our website: https://uwm.edu/studentorientation/common-reading-experience/
Facilitators will receive the article in advance as well as have the opportunity to attend a training session in August. Visit http://uwm.edu/cetl/common-reading-experience/ for training days, times, and to register.
We can only provide this opportunity to our new UWM students with the support of faculty and instructional staff volunteers.
Thank you for your support!
