Ghent Church updated 11-11-19
Once again this year, Ghent UMC will partner with our neighbor, Ohef Sholom Temple, for the Norfolk Area Shelter Team. We are responsible for the evening of Friday, Dec. 13th through the morning of Saturday, Dec. 14th, and we need your help to make it happen!
We welcome children over the age of 5 to help with dinner and breakfast, as long as they are accompanied by adults. Most of the time you will enter the Temple via the Redgate entrance; you can knock on the door or call the Temple (625-4295; ext 16 will ring in the kitchen).
Please consider volunteering for an overnight shift (adults only). It is safe (there is a police officer on duty) and gives you a chance to catch up on reading (you will have to stay awake for the whole shift. Please note how the date changes to the next day for the 2:00 am shift (even though it will still seem like the previous night).
For those who sign up to prepare either dinner or breakfast, there will always be a team leader to coordinate the meal. If you are working in the kitchen please make sure you have your hair pulled back.
If you need to change your sign-up, we are happy to do this for you, but you can also do it yourself. Sign-up Genius will send me an email, but you can notify me as well.
In addition to volunteering, please consider making a donation to NEST in one of the following ways:
- Winter hats and/or gloves.
- Pants for women or men (any size).
- Monetary donations: it literally takes a village to make NEST a success. Small cash and check donations are truly appreciated; please make checks payable to Ghent UMC, with a designation for NEST.
If you have any questions or need more information, please contact Jennifer Gross-Statler.
