Starting on August 19th, and once a month thereafter, Ghent United Methodist Church will welcome all families from around our community to come celebrate the good news of Jesus Christ together. You don’t have to be a member of Ghent UMC already to join in as we bring a different kind of church to Norfolk. It's called Messy Church!
Messy Church isn’t just for kids—it’s for all members of the family, from ages two to 92! Families today are often overwhelmed by their many worldly burdens, and are crying out for the comfort of God’s presence in their lives. They need to be able to grow together in their walk of faith, but also need a new way to meet God together. Created to be a multi-generational experience for the whole family, Messy Church allows us to celebrate God in a fresh, new way.
Messy Church got its name because life is messy, and God meets you wherever you are in the chaos. It’s truly an interactive experience focusing on a basic theme each month. People of all ages will gather to explore their faith through games, crafts, and activities; then join together in celebration through music, prayer, and retelling of a Bible story, followed by a family style dinner. We'll send them home with new ideas to connect with your family and with God. To watch a two-minute video on Messy Church, visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSc8fo7vraI
Our first two sessions of Messy Church will take place on August 19th and September 23rd, and on the 3rd Sunday of the month each month thereafter, from 4:30 pm.
The theme for August 19th is “Wonderfully Made,” while on September 23rd, we’ll be focusing on “Creating & Caring.”
