The minimum age for an independent volunteer is 16 years old for the Friends Book Sale. We accept volunteers less than 16 years only if with a “Formally Organized Group under Adult Supervision” such as the Boys Scouts and other such groups.
BOOK SALE - Friends of the Plano Public Library is a non-profit, membership organization dedicated to supporting Plano libraries. Its mission is to serve as an advocate in developing, maintaining, and improving public library resources, services, and facilities for all patrons. Members promote Plano Libraries and donate many hours to host a variety of programs including the annual Friends Book Sale. Every summer, Friends of the Plano Public Library holds their annual book sale, with almost 100,000 gently used books, DVDs, CDs and more sold to raise funds to benefit the five Plano libraries. Innovative services like eBooks and eMagazines, robotics, and STEAM kits (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) are funded by Friends; along with year-round educational family, children’s and teen programs. Volunteer groups are needed to help with this event.
Dates: July 25-27, 2019 PLEASE NOTE these days have changed. The 3 day sale will start on Thursday (instead of Friday) and end on Saturday.

Duties: Volunteers are needed to move boxes, unload books and place books in appropriate categories. Volunteers are also needed to bag books for patrons and help tally purchases onto a ticket that patrons will take to the cashiers.
Unloaders - Unload book boxes and move them to the appropriate tables. You must be able to move heavy items up to 40 lbs. to volunteer as an unloader.
Set Up - set books on tables and set up the lobby before the sale begins
Signage - Constructs the signs used at the sale
Floor Staff - Keep the tables neat and stocked, answer customer questions, assist customers with moving books to their cars, run the tally tables, straighten the room each evening
Super Sorters - Return books to their appropriate tables
Talley Tables - Tally book totals by type for customer before payment is made
Holding Area - Manage hold area where customers leave books while they continue shopping
Book carriers - Use dollies to help customers through the tally/check out process and loading into their cars
Take Down - assist with clean up and packing at the end of the sale
