*Of special note - this production encourages deaf and hard of hearing actors to audition and will make sure you’re welcome and comfortable.  Please let us know if you’ll be at auditions or have any questions by emaiing [email protected].*

All ages and genders will be considered for ALL roles.

FORMAT: Auditions will be held from 6:00pm-9pm on December 12th with everyone in the same space for readings. Each actor will have the opportunity to read a few self-selected sides, and then will likely be asked to read additional parts.

I’m not looking for cold reading ability (although preparation will help), but initial character choices at interpreting the role and trying to bring the character to life vocally and physically.

Characters needed for The Miracle Worker:

Annie Sullivan - appears to be in her early-late 20s, is Helen’s  teacher. She is a strong and vibrant woman who is determined to connect Helen to the world. Her challenging past is what drives her to push  Helen to the brink. There is a crude vitality to her and she is undeterred by the Keller’s pitying of their daughter Helen. She is  involved in intense physical scenes. Must have a strong connection to Helen.  Will need to learn or know sign language.

Helen Keller -appears to be 8-11 years old, is a deaf, blind mute. She is trapped in her own world, unable to speak, hear, or see. She is primal in her responses as she has been blind and deaf since she was stricken with scarlet fever as a baby. She is involved in intense physical scenes. Must have a strong connection to Annie Sullivan.

Arthur Keller - Age 40s 50s, is Helen’s father. A Captain, he is stern, but devoted to his family. He struggles to connect to young  Helen, but he is loving nonetheless.

Mrs. Kate Keller - Younger second wife of Captain Keller. Helen’s loving mother. Devoted and yearning to have hope. Also the mother of an infant girl.

James Keller - Oldest child of Captain Keller. Helen's Half Brother. He struggles with Helen’s minimal discipline and struggles to please his demanding father.

Aunt Eve - age 30s 50s, is Helen’s aunt. She is a talkative, opinionated woman who is the catalyst for the Kellers’ contact with the Perkins School for the Blind.

Viney - Servant to the Keller family. Funny and opinionated.

Percy - playmate of Helen

All actors must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to participate.
