A Doorway to Hope
BECAUSE HUNGER DOES NOT TAKE A SUMMER BREAK!!
Children need healthy food all year long. This summer A Doorway to Hope is participating in the Wake County Summer Foods Program, a USDA program that provides free, nutritious meals during the summer to children who receive free or reduced price meals during the school year.
During the school year, many children receive free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch through the School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs. When school lets out, many of these children are at risk of hunger. Hunger is one of the most severe roadblocks to the learning process, health and well-being of the child. Lack of nutrition during the summer months may set up a cycle for poor performance once school begins again and make children more prone to illness and other health issues. The Summer Nutrition Program is designed to fill that nutrition gap and assure children get the nutritious meals they need.
A Doorway to Hope will be coordinating the Summer Foods Program at the Arbors at Cary apartment complex located at 314 Cheswick Place, Cary NC 27511. We will run the program Monday and Tuesday evenings, all summer! Can you help serve food and organize activities for the children? Please sign up for an open spot. High school aged teens are also welcome to volunteer. Younger children are welcome to attend with an adult join in the fun with the other kids. All under 18 are welcome to enjoy the meal too.
Thank you so much for volunteering your time to make a difference in our community!
