The ministry of acolyte comes from ancient times. Serving on the altar is an honor and is a vital role in a worship service. Acolytes serve God, they assist the worship leaders, and they support the congregation during worship.
We invite people of all ages to join our acolyte ministry. Acolytes serve throughout the year, as our faith does not take the summer off. Revs. Allison and Olivia will oversee training and support and always provide in-the-moment guidance. The Acolytes vest (put on robes), light the candles on the altar, lead the procession into the church at the beginning of the service and assist the clergy in preparing the altar for communion. At special services, acolytes light extra candles and sometimes serve as thurifer, swinging the censer. At the end of the service, acolytes lead the procession out of the church and extinguish the candles. Children, youth, and adults are welcome to serve as acolytes. Please contact Miriam McKenney if you have questions and sign up below to participate in Calvary's acolyte ministry.
