The MOMentum Network
Thank you for volunteering for The MOMentum Network! Our evening meetings are a time to build community, learn, and support single moms building a better future for their families through higher education. We have three volunteer opportunities on meeting nights:
1. Meal Team
2. Hospitality Team
3. Childcare Team Lead
Sometimes a church will adopt a meeting night and fill the role of all three, but sometimes we have different groups come together. After you sign up our operations coordinator will contact you to confirm your space and answer any questions you might have. Read below for the description of the teams & sign up in a relevant slot.
Typically, Meal Teams:
-Bring a meal for 30 that meets multiple dietary needs & is kid-friendly. Taco Bar & Pasta Station are extra popular & easy.* Desserts & juice boxes are a hit with kiddos.
-Arrive between 5 pm and 5:30 pm with a ready-made meal to keep it warm in the oven to be ready by 5:45 pm. Some items can be cooked &/or heated up in the kitchen, but must be 100% ready by 5:45.
-Serves the meal and stays to eat with us (if your group is extra large, we'd love for you to prep enough for y'all to eat with us).
We’re extra grateful when our meal team can clean up afterward (finishing up around 7 pm), but if you are unable to stay beyond serving the meal, just let us know and we can get another crew to help.
*Taco Bar: Meat, cheese, soft taco tortillas, tortilla chips, salsa, lettuce, black beans, sour cream, rice & queso and/or guac (if you're feeling extra generous!)
*Pasta Bar and Salad: Noodles, marinara (no meat), meat sauce, parmesan cheese, salad bar with toppings on side, garlic bread
We sometimes have extra food & we will put it in to-go boxes for our moms who come and sometimes deliver to moms who couldn't so it's usually better to make a little extra vs. not enough.
Typically, Hospitality teams:
-Arrive by 5:30
-Serve as greeters at the door, in the hallway to direct to the meal space, in the fellowship hall
-Help where needed
-Sit in on the meeting with moms in case a baby needs to be held or help is needed during the meeting.
-Clean up after meeting
Typically, childcare special guests or extra helpers:
-Have been personally requested by TMN staff.
-Are background checked through their career, church or college & have a recent, accessible copy on file.
-Serve as extra helping hands for our childcare leaders by playing games, acting silly, handling supplies
-Childcare team members and Special Guests are never alone with children, only childcare leaders who are background checked through The MOMentum Network may be with children in groups of 2+.
