SWS Staff/Volunteers
Staff & Volunteer Orientation
With the COVID risk, we are using Zoom for Orientation classes this year. Please have either installed beforehand or be at computer able to open Zoom. You will need a functioning microphone, speaker and camera for these trainings, or use the Zoom app through your smartphone.
When we experience inclement weather in our county, we refer to it as Severe Weather. This is when the conditions outside have reached 25 degrees or lower, there is an accumulation of snow and/or ice, or 32 degrees with freezing rain over 1 inch throughout the night. These conditions pose an immediate danger to the wellfare of those unsheltered, especially those with physical or mental health conditions, where the extreme shifts in temperature make the more vulnerable.
Orientation will give you an overview of what to expect in shelter operations, meet other shelter volunteers and ask questions. Orientation will be mandatory for all, former and new, volunteers and staff.
All volunteers will be vetted and background checked. If you have not yet done this, please contact Emily Coleman, at [email protected], or call 503.488.7745, to begin that process before proceeding.
