SWN-St. Patrick Parish (Jan. 26-Feb. 1, 2020)

Welcome to the Severe Weather Network Volunteer Sign Up.  St. Patrick Parish has agreed to staff the center the week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1, 2020.  Some positions require training.  Please review training requirements and volunteer opportunities.  Your Team Coordinator is Julie Victory ([email protected]) if you have any questions.  

Training:  If you attended a training session in 2017, 2018 or completed our online training course, you will not need to complete the online training course unless you would like to review it as a refresher.  If you are new and would like to volunteer for a position that requires training, please select the following:  Training

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

GUEST REGISTRATION/CHECK IN - 5:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (Up to 2 Volunteers) (REQUIRES TRAINING)

Welcome guests to the Center. Register each guest.  Complete a search of guests' bags and store items in guest bins.  For new guests:  Have them complete New Guest Registration forms, assist them if needed by familiarizing them with the SWN Center, assigning each new guest a cot. 

MEAL PREPARATION (Chefs): (Up to 3 volunteers) (NO Training Necessary)

Prepare meal for guests and volunteers.  Meals should be nourishing, but simple, such as a main dish (such as soup or lasagna or chicken/rice, etc.), a side dish (such as salad or vegetables, bread/rolls, etc.).  You will be notified in advance of the approximate number of guests/volunteers.  Dinners should be delivered to the SWN Center hot at 5:45 p.m. 

CHEFS:  PLEASE ENTER YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS AND WHAT YOU PLAN TO BRING IN THE NOTE Section of the sign up form.  All participants will be able to view meal plans and coordinator with one another.  This wil help decrease repetitive meals as well.

DINNER SERVERS/EVENING CHAPERONES:  6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (2-4 Volunteers) (REQIRES TRAINING)

Set up for dinner.  Dinner is served between 6:30 and 8:00 p.m. Clear dinner items and remain at the shelter as an evening chaperone until 10pm when overnight chaperones have arrived.

OVERNIGHT CHAPERONES: 9:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m. (At least one female and one male) (REQUIRES TRAINING)

The overnight chaperones are responsible to ensure the safety and comfort of the guests.  The chaperones will sleep in shifts with one volunteer always awake throughout the night.  Chaperones will have emergency on call number for the SWN Coordinator.  Overnight chaperones will make coffee, prepare the guest "grab and go" breakfast table by 6:00am.  Ensure all guests are awake and ready to check out of the Center by 7:00 a.m. 

ON CALL LAUNDRY - On call laundry volunteers will be notified if bedding and towels are in need of laundering.  If so, volunteers will pick up the laundry bags at the church entrance doors after 8:00 a.m. and return to the center by 4:00 p.m. the same day. Laundry is done on an as-needed basis. 

Location: Chilson Hills Baptist Church, 4440 Brighton Rd, Howell, MI 48843.  West of Chilson Road (on Brighton Road), Cross train tracks. (across the street and just west of Vic and Bob's)
