***Huguenot Memorial Park***
Task Force Hydro1, USO and V star Fitness company are looking forward to meeting you for an epic paddle experience at Huguenot Memorial Park. Expect some wildlife including manatees, Dolphins, birds(don’t worry they steer clear of us). We will practice our SUP skills, basic introduction to Stand Up Paddleboard, safety and equipment check.
PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION BELOW CAREFULLY TO ENSURE YOU HAVE THE EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES NECESSARY TO HAVE A GREAT TIME!!
We will meet at Shelter #2, There is plenty of parking in front and behind the shelter but please plan ahead and arrive early since it is Memorial Day weekend and the park fills up pretty quick. The event starts at 8:00 AM. Please check the address from your home the day before so you know how long it takes to get to Huguenot Memorial Park. Address is 10980 Heckscher Dr, Jacksonville, FL 32226, bring your military, Dependent or Veteran ID to only pay $2.50 per vehicle(up to six people onboard).
Please bring multi layers of thin upper clothing in case it gets warm or you need to protect your arms from the sun. A wide brimmed hat or baseball cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, a towel, and a spare set of clothing are also recommended. Water, snacks and lunch will be provided(Subs from Publix or the Commissary), but you are more than welcome to bring your own if you want.
The paddle boards are wide and stable so highly unlikely you will fall off. Feel free to stand, sit or kneel. Either option is good, coaches will be on site to teach those who have not stood up before, so no worries.
Sunscreen, Lip balm.
Beach hat, turtle neck protector
Beach clothes and a change of clothes as well
Sunglasses with safety cord (recommended)
Long sleeve UV protector (rashguard, or dry fit shirt).
PLAN OF THE DAY:
8:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.
8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m : Safety Brief, Equipment check, Dry land instruction, coaches
meet participants. **YOU MUST ATTEND THE BRIEFING IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE**
9:00 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. : Opening ceremony
We will talk the meaning of the Paddle Out and it’s importance to waterman
Optional: We will give someone the opportunity to honor someone by speaking about someone they want to honor. That person can be a loved one or someone you don’t know but admire. You are encouraged to bring a photo to hold up.
9:15 a.m. -9:45 a.m. : Grab your board and paddle out to release your flowers of choice in honor of the fallen. (please do not bring any form of plastic in to the water)
9:45 a.m.-10:30 a.m: First group out in the water with an instructor for paddleboard experience.
10:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m: Second group out in the water with an instructor for paddleboard experience.
11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m: Paddle around the area is optional, hang out, share stories.
12:00 p.m.: Pack up and clean up.
