The Airspace Crew assists with arriving and departing aircraft at the Tankwa airstrip.
Volunteer Roles at the Airfield:
- Aircraft Marshaller-3 per shift. There will be two volunteers stationed on the bravo apron and one on the alpha apron. Marshallers will meet arriving aircraft at their parking stands and escourt burners form the aircraft around the runway and safely to the terminal hut where they will be handed over to the passenger assistant. Role might also involve patrolling the runway and removing obstacles like sharp stones, midgets, the odd wandering Burner and, if necessary, advising pilots of any potential dangers. Basically you are the eyes and ears of the airport.
- Passenger assistant- This volunteer will be stationed at the terminal hut and will direct arriving burners to the quicket agent to scan their tickets, verify airspace passes etc. This person also controls access to the airfield
Tankwa airfield is often bustling with interesting aircraft, skydivers, pilots and a great volunteer duty for anyone interested in aviation of any sort!
