Birding Series (Saturdays)

Wareham’s forests, marshes, and oceanfront are home to a wide diversity of fascinating bird species.

Join Wareham Land Trust in our 6-month Birding Series to become familiar with the looks, sounds, and habitats of our local feathered friends as they change throughout the year.

It is not mandatory to attend every monthly session and all experience levels are welcome. Please bring binoculars, appropriate hiking attire, water, snacks, and a readiness to learn!

When: Every 1st Saturday of the month with exceptions (see schedule)

Where: Wareham, MA natural areas (see schedule)

Behind Jug Shop

Winter Waterfowl

Wareham is a great location for waterfowl (ducks, geese, gulls, etc.) that spend the winter! We will start behind the Jug Shop the migrate to the Onset Pier. Target species: Common Goldeneye, Bufflehead, Common Loon.

Wintering Backyard Residents

We will be searching the forest for our hearty wintering songbirds. Target species: Black-capped Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, Downy Woodpecker.

Early Arrivals and Ospreys

Migration season is upon us! We will be searching Marks Cove for early arriving migrants and watching one of Wareham's most beloved birds: Osprey. Target Species: Osprey, Eastern Phoebe, Pine Warbler.

Warbler and Songbird Migration

NOTE: earlier time. Warblers are here! Get a neck-ache while searching the tree canopies for brilliantly colored warblers singing their little hearts out. Target species: Yellow Warbler, Northern Parula, American Redstart.

Coastal Birds

NOTE: time change accounting for tides. We will be searching for shorebirds, waterbirds, and wading birds. Target species: Great Egret, Spotted Sandpiper, Common Tern.

Celebratory Walk

The final session! We will be birding for the sake of birding, so we will cover all that we have talked about in previous months. Target species: ALL.
