2019 RHA Volunteers

2019 Red Hot Art Festival Volunteers!

The 2019 Red Hot Art Festival is almost upon us, and it really does take a village to produce this special community-driven festival. We’re seeking volunteers to help us make the magic happen in a variety of ways.

VOLUNTEER PERKS

  • Access to cold beverages during their shifts
  • A special discount on Red Hot Art tote bags featuring graphic artist Jared Maire’s “red hot things” design.
  • Invitation to a special appreciation event on Monday, July 22nd (6:30pm at the SSCO offices, 1925 Nicollet Avenue).
  • Some renters may also be eligible for special discounts on their rent just for volunteering, learn more about the Rental Rebate program on the SSCO website: stevenssquare.org/rental-rebate-programs.

TO SIGN UP
Either:

  1. Sign up using our form on Sign-Up Genius - ***Please note you do NOT need to create an account to sign up, even though it makes you think you do.***
  2. Contact Dave at [email protected] or call our office at 612-874-2840.

VOLUNTEER ROLES
***On the day of the festival, check in at the SSCO booth (the top of the hill underneath the big wooden “pergola” structure) to sign in and get your volunteer badge. Please plan to arrive 10 minutes before your shift starts. Parking will be especially tight that day, so consider walking, biking, or taking public transit on the day of the festival.***

Saturday

  • Saturday Early Set-Up (7:00 to 9:00 AM) - Assist with setting up the park to prepare for the arrival of Vendor Artists. Will include setting up pop-up tents, marking booth spots, and distributing (empty) recycling/garbage carts and signage. ***Donuts and coffee are the extra perks of this shift!***
  • Saturday Late Set-Up (9:00 to 11:00 AM) - Assist with setting up the SSCO tent, yard games area, ice cream vending, and anything else that needs to be set before the festival begins at 11:00 AM.
  • Sighted Guide for the Touchable Art Fair (11:30 AM to 3:00 PM at the latest) - At 11:30, receive a special half-hour training from Vision Loss Resources about how to serve as a Sighted Guide, providing greater access to the festival for individuals who are blind or have low vision. Then starting at noon, be paired with a Touchable Art Fair visitor and help them navigate the festival until they are finished, by 3 PM at the latest. No previous experience necessary. More about this role is available on our website:
  • Saturday Table Shifts (2-hour shifts from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM) - Staff the SSCO information booth, providing information about SSCO and the neighborhood, while also selling ice cream to raise money for the organization.
  • Saturday Recycling Maestro (2-hour shifts from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM) - We’re introducing organics recycling this year! Oversee the garbage and recycling containers to help visitors properly dispose of waste while you enjoy performances at the nearby stage. Gloves and grabbers available, but this is mostly about helping people dispose their own waste appropriately.
  • Saturday Shutdown (5:00 PM to 7:00 PM) - Complete one hour of a regular Table Shift and then help shut down the booth for the night, which includes bringing some supplies to a nearby storage area and picking up litter (gloves, bags, and grabbers provided).

Sunday

  • Sunday Set-Up (9:00 to 11:00 AM) - Assist with bringing supplies from a nearby storage area back to the SSCO booth. Swap out recycling/garbage containers (no handling of garbage required). Help prepare the park for another day of the festival.
