LWVSA Voter Outreach
It’s time to celebrate Juneteenth at the Texas Freedom Festival on June 18 & 19, 2021. Come join the League of Women Voters at this event and help us staff a table for voter outreach. This is an outside event at Comanche Park #2, 2600 Rigsby Ave, San Antonio, TX 78222. The LWV is nonpartisan so volunteers should wear clothing without messages. LWV shirts are permitted.
Certified volunteer deputized registrars (VDRs) are needed. All VDR certifications expired at the end of 2020. There is still time to get certified but you must act quickly. Click on the red paper clip by ‘related files’ below to view the instructions to get certified as a VDR. The training and test has not changed so it is relatively quick to finish.
Recent guidelines from CDC state that fully vaccinated persons can safely attend crowded outdoor events without wearing a mask or social distancing.
But this does not mean that every vaccinated person has Zero risk; it means that for the large majority of fully vaccinated persons it is very unlikely they will become ill with the COVID virus if exposed at an event.
When deciding whether to volunteer at the Juneteenth Freedom Festival, there are a few things to consider.
While the amount of Coronavirus in the San Antonio population is way down, the virus is still circulating
You won't know who is vaccinated and who isn't
As happens with all vaccines, a small percent of persons who are fully vaccinated are not protected.
If you or persons you take care of have a health condition or an immune system deficiency that would increase the risk of illness after an exposure or decrease the response to the COVID vaccine, then attending crowded events may pose a high risk.
If you decide to attend and assist the LWVSA but maintain some concerns, you can lower your COVID risks by continuing to wear a good fitting mask and trying to maintain some social distance when not speaking with the attendees.
