2021-2022 RE Volunteers

e-RE Volunteers (September-November)

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the 2021-2022 virtual Religious Exploration year!  Our programs are not possible without YOU! Please review the descriptions below for volunteer slots.  As of now, we are anticipating staying with our virtual RE classes to keep our youngest UUs safe, happy, and healthy! 
All e-RE meetings will be held on Zoom. Minimal knowledge of this application is needed to volunteer.  Our DRE or a RE Team member will be present each Sunday to ensure a smooth transition into break-out rooms and offer any tech support needed.  The Zoom link for e-RE is available through our website, e-letter, and volunteer emails sent the week of your designated volunteer day.

Our curriculum this year is led by the UUA's Signs of Our Faith for our elementary school age children (1st-4th Grade) and Riddle and Mystery for our middle school age children (5th-8th Grade). Then once a month, we will host UU Principle Days for children of all ages!

Check out the short descriptions below for both curricula and our volunteer roles!
 

Elementary School Class (1st-4th Grade)

Signs of Our Faith (SOF) will guide our children to do their best to live faithful lives every day. It presents fourteen values that are loved by the Unitarian Universalist community, including the quest for knowledge, reverence for life, supporting one another on our faith journeys, and public witness. Children examine how their lives do and can exhibit these traits and values, and come to understand that their faith is a living faith whose histories and teachings are fortifications for living faithfully in a complex world.

  • SOF Elementary Lead - Being a lead teacher in our elementary room, you will guide the children through our Signs of Our Faith lesson. A lead teacher should ideally be a volunteer with past experience in RE or in a classroom setting. Each Sunday, we explore through different styles of learning including story, song, art, play, and fun! The curriculum is emailed to the lead teacher the Tuesday before your volunteer date to review and make yourself familiar with the content. As the lead teacher, you will have to help mute and unmute participants during class.
  • SOF Elementary Assistant - As an assistant in our elementary children, you will be responsible for helping the lead teacher with the Signs of Our Faith lesson plan. Your responsibilities include monitoring the chat, helping the lead teacher see any raised hands, and offer support and input. You are also responsible to make sure the class covenant is followed and address any behavior that strays from that covenant. The curriculum is emailed to you the Tuesday before your volunteer date to review and make yourself familiar with the content.

Middle School Class (5th-8th Grade)

Riddle and Mystery opens the conversation around the big questions and our children's search for understanding. Each session introduces and processes a Big Question: Does God exist? What happens when you die? Can we ever solve life’s mystery? How can I know what to believe? What does Unitarian Universalism mean to me? 

  • RaM Middle Lead - Being a lead teacher for our middle school children, you will guide the children through our Riddle and Mystery lesson. A lead teacher should ideally be a volunteer with past experience in RE or in a classroom setting. Each Sunday, we explore different Big Questions through story, song, discussion, and introspection! The curriculum is emailed to the lead teacher the Tuesday before your volunteer date to review and make yourself familiar with the content. As the lead teacher, you will have to help mute and unmute participants during class.
  • RaM Middle Assistant - As an assistant for our middle school children, you will be responsible for helping the lead teacher with our Riddle and Mystery lesson plan. UU Principles Day (K-8th Grade)

  • UU Principles Lead - Each month, we will explore one of the principles that makes us UUs! As a lead, you will be in charge of leading a discussion on a specific principle of Unitarian Universalism. A lead teacher should ideally be a volunteer with past experience in RE or in a classroom setting. The curriculum is emailed to the lead teacher the Tuesday before your volunteer date to review and make yourself familiar with the content. As the lead teacher, you will have to help mute and unmute participants during class.
  • UU Principles Assistant - As an assistant for our middle school children, you will be responsible for helping the lead teacher with our UU Principles lesson plan. Your responsibilities include monitoring the chat, helping the lead teacher see any raised hands, and offer support and input. You are also responsible to make sure the class covenant is followed and address any behavior that strays from that covenant. The curriculum is emailed to you the Tuesday before your volunteer date to review and make yourself familiar with the content.
    • September (1st Principle): We believe that each and every person is important.
    • October (2nd Principle): We believe that all people should be treated fairly and kindly.
    • November (3rd Principle): We believe that we should accept one another and keep on learning together.

FUUN Day (K-8th Grade)

  • FUUN Day Lead - This day is all about the fUUn! As a lead, you will be in charge of leading any games or activities planned for this day. This is your place to shine and have fUUn with any community-building arts, crafts, and games you would like!
  • FUUN Day Assistant - To assist on FUUN Day, you get to participate in the games and activities with the kids! You will also monitor the room and help the leader operate the games smoothly. As assistant, you are also responsible to make sure the class covenant is followed and address any behavior that strays from that covenant.
