Congregation Beth Emeth
The drive supports Cornerstones, a very active local charity, and is a wonderful way for Beth Emeth families to help the less fortunate in our community have a full, healthy Thanksgiving Dinner. Helping the hungry is fundamental in Judaism. The Talmud states: "Providing charity for poor and hungry people weighs as heavily as all the other commandments of the Torah combined."
PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID restrictions, there are significant changes from previous Thanksgiving Drives! We have been requested to donate only COMPLETE boxes and have congregants drop these off directly at Saint John Neumann Church (SJN) in Reston, VA during specified drop off times.
Thanksgiving Dinner Boxes
This year, CBE committed to at least 40 complete boxes of Thanksgiving dinner, including the food listed below and a $25 grocery gift card (kept separate). Feel free to add a personal touch by decorating the box-- a great family project!
A hearty Thanksgiving meal for a family includes:
3 cans assorted veggies (please no green beans)
2 cans fruit
1 bottle olive or canola cooking oil (24 oz.)
1 box instant potatoes or macaroni and cheese or stuffing
1 box rice or a 2-5 lb. bag of rice
1 box biscuit or muffin mix
1 snack (pretzels, chips, nuts, etc.)
1 box of dessert mix - brownies, cookies, cake, etc
2 lb. bag of flour
2 lb. bag of sugar
One $25 grocery store gift card (Giant/Safeway/Harris Teeter) for the purchase of a turkey/meat entree or other perishables. (Please place the $25 gift certificate in a separate envelope and separate from the box for collection)
An even easier option at Giant North Point
Go to the Giant at North Point Village Center in Reston (this one location only!!!) by November 14, and go to the Customer Service Counter. Pay $50 for your food box, which includes a $25 gift card, and Cornerstones will deliver to SJN. This flier has complete information.

- Only during these dates & times:

No-Shopping, No-Drop-Off Option:
If you cannot go to the store for any reason, Beth Emeth Members can donate funds towards additional $25 gift cards that the Social Action Committee will purchase and deliver to Cornerstones. Please go to the donation form on the CBE website, LOG IN, and enter your donation and charge it to your account (or pay via credit card or e-check). If you do not know how to log in, please see the member access instructions.
Please fill out this online donation receipt form for Thanksgiving Food and Gift Cards. When you hit "submit" at the end, you will receive an email from Cornerstones that can be printed out for tax receipt purposes. Even if you do not anticipate needing a receipt for tax purposes, please fill out this form and be sure to include the value (estimated or exact) of your donation, as it helps Cornerstones justify & retain contracts and grants from county, state, and federal governments.
Extra Mitzvah Opportunity:
If you would like to volunteer to be at SJN and help to collect the donations from the cars, please Contact Susan Alger, Director of Volunteer and Community Engagement, at [email protected] or 571-323-1383 for more information about this, or other seasonal and occasional volunteer needs.
